On hosting the holidays at home…

‘This year, I’ll be hosting a Lunar New Year party for my mother-in-law and some of my close friends. On the menu will be Buddha Jumps Over the Wall – a soup packed full of delicious and auspicious Chinese ingredients such as abalone and sea cucumber. On New Year’s Day, we’ll also make dumplings together, which is fun to do as a family and symbolizes good fortune.’

On being a hostess with the mostess…

‘Always prepare your guests’ favourite drinks so they’re never left wanting. If you’re cooking, prep as much as you can in advance so you can spend more time with your guests than in the kitchen. Fresh flowers, a well-stocked bar cart and lots of candles are also musts.’

On stylish finishing touches…

‘My style at home is elegant but comfortable, with lots of neutrals in a variety of textures, enhanced with touches of rose gold and brass, and richly coloured artwork. My personal style is similar in approach – elegant but comfortable, classic with a bit of edge.’ When it comes to a Lunar New Year outfit? ‘Red is a must! A red cocktail dress or jumpsuit is perfect for the occasion.’

On new and old traditions…

‘This Lunar New Year will be my first year as a married woman with my new family, so it’ll be a brand-new experience! In the past, my whole family has got together at home in either Taipei or Singapore, and my mother has made three days of feasts. She’s a very traditional Taiwanese woman, so every dish has a symbolic meaning to be eaten at a specific meal during the celebrations. The house is always decked out with willows and plum blossoms. I hope to continue these traditions in my own home.’
