The festive season is upon us, and while your calendar is filling up with celebrations and soirées, your hair might be feeling the strain. Between heat styling, late nights and the effects of cooler weather, your lovely locks might become dry, brittle and lacklustre. But don’t worry — with a few simple haircare tips, you’ll keep your tresses looking party-ready all season long.

1. But First, Bond

Hair bonding treatments are a buzzword in beauty right now, and for good reason. A bonding treatment is an excellent place to start, especially as the colder season takes its toll. These treatments restore the hair’s internal bonds, which can weaken due to styling, environmental stress and chemical treatments, leaving hair prone to damage and dryness. For a deep boost, try Less is More Pure Bond Complex Hair Balm, which can be left on overnight to rebuild strength and lock in moisture, ensuring smooth, resilient hair for the season ahead.

2. Protect Before You Perfect

This tip might be the most obvious, but it’s so important it can’t go unsaid: never put heat on your hair without applying a heat protector first. One of the biggest culprits of hair damage, excessive heat weakens the hair’s structure, leading to breakage and split ends. A heat protection spray, such as Philip B Thermal Protection Spray, acts as a barrier between your hair and the high temperatures, helping to lock in moisture and prevent damage. Also, wherever possible, use your curling wand, flat iron or hairdryer on a lower heat setting.

3. Wash Less, Dry Shampoo Strategically
Washing your hair too often can strip away natural oils, leaving it dry and more vulnerable to damage, especially in colder weather. Aim to wash just two or three times a week, using a dry shampoo (we love Aveda Shampowder Dry Shampoo) in between to keep your hair looking fresh. While most people reach for the bottle before heading out the door, apply dry shampoo the night before for best results — this gives it time to absorb excess oils as you sleep, so you wake up with hair that feels cleaner and more voluminous.

4. Avoid Tight Styles and Overstyling
While it’s tempting to go for intricate up-dos or tight ponytails for your festive looks, try not to overdo it with hairstyles that pull on your roots. Constant tension can weaken your hair over time, leading to breakage or thinning. Opt for looser, more relaxed styles, like a soft bun or a half-up, half-down look. These styles not only look effortlessly chic but also give your hair a break from unnecessary stress.

5. Show Your Scalp Some TLC

During the holiday season (and all year round), we tend to forget to give our scalp a little love and attention, too. Late nights and stress can throw off the scalp's natural balance, leading to dryness or excess oil production. To avoid this, incorporate scalp care into your routine. As for which scalp treatment, we’d suggest Aveda’s Pramāsana Protective Scalp Concentrate, which helps to balance sebum levels to maintain the purity of the scalp at the root of the hair.
