With Lunar New Year fast approaching, you might be wondering where to host a special meal with your nearest and dearest. To help you decide, we enlisted Hong Kong foodie Gloria Chung, known for sharing her mouthwatering dining experiences around the city on her Instagram account @foodandtravelhk.

Gloria has tasted her way through three Chinese restaurants at Pacific Place and is here to share her verdict, along with recommendations for the perfect spot for every type of gathering.

Family Feast: Ye Shanghai

‘Ye Shanghai is a standout choice for a family feast with its elegant ambience and authentic Shanghainese dishes. The Stir-fried River Shrimps with Longjing Tea are a delightful classic, featuring small, plump shrimps that burst with umami flavour. Don’t miss the Abalone and Noodles in Spring Onion Oil, where a touch of abalone sauce elevates the flavour to new heights. The Steamed Yellow Croaker, sourced from Min Dong Yi Yu, showcases the finest quality, cultivated in a pristine environment. Finally, the Crispy Eel with Sweet and Sour Sauce is perfectly crunchy and balanced in acidity. An exceptional dining experience that’s sure to impress!’

Dinner for Two: Dim Sum Library

‘With a romantic ambience, all-day dim sum and great cocktails, Dim Sum Library is perfect for a memorable evening! The standout dish, Dan Dan Xiaolong Bao, features a unique twist with dan dan noodle soup inside a thin-skinned bao that bursts with flavour. The Mandarin Fish Cheung Fun is surprisingly addictive, with delicate fish complemented by a Sichuan chilli sauce that has a delightful hint of peanuts. Don’t miss the Baked Honey Glazed Iberico Pork Bun — the crispy crust is milky and perfectly contrasts the juicy char siu sauce within. Finally, the Braised Rice with Black Truffle, Black Moss & Abalone is not only their signature dish but also auspicious for Chinese New Year.’

Lunch Spot: Tien Yi

‘Tien Yi is a spacious and casual classic Cantonese dim sum lunch spot perfect for lunch or other gatherings. The menu features Cantonese favourites like Har Gow and Siu Mai, along with standout dishes such as Barbecued Pork Flank with crispy skin. The crispy Spring Rolls and the Char Siu Buns have  deliciously juicy fillings that complement the crunchy exteriors beautifully. Also try the Peking Duck here — it’s perfect for sharing. The desserts, including Osmanthus Pudding and Steamed Malay Cake, were outstanding. With a laid-back vibe and a variety of tasty dishes, Tien Yi is an ideal choice for a hearty dim sum gathering!’
